WEATHER on Zakynthos
The warmest weather is from May to September, when average daytime temperatures reach 34°C. However, due to the north-westerly westerly winds, even in summer temperatures do not rise above uncomfortable levels. The coldest months are January and December, when daytime temperatures reach around 14°C and nighttime temperatures drop to 7°C. In terms of rainfall, the most precipitation falls in November with an average of around 95 mm, while the least can be expected in July with just 3 mm. Thanks to its frequent rainfall, the island does not suffer from drought like other parts of Greece, has plenty of fresh water from natural sources and is rightly called the green emerald by the locals. The sun's rays can be enjoyed on Zakynthos almost all year round.
TOURIST season on Zante
The main tourist season lasts from May to October and is concentrated on the south-eastern part of the island. The western and northern parts of the island have so far been spared from tourism, and the rich British and German clientele is concentrated here. The recent trend has been to extend the season to include the months of April and November. Tourists are also starting to arrive over the winter period. The island has a modern airport operated by the German company Fraport (Frankfurt am Main Airport) and direct daily air links to Prague and Vienna.

Reaching Zakynthos by Air
Zakynthos International Airport "Dionysios Solomos" is the island's main gateway for air travelers. The airport has regular flights from Athens, with two daily flights operated by major airlines, making it easy to reach the island year-round. The flight from Athens to Zakynthos takes approximately one hour, offering a quick and convenient travel option.
Arriving by Sea
For those who prefer traveling by sea, the Kyllini-Zakynthos ferry route is a popular choice. There are up to 10 daily ferries from the port of Kyllini on the mainland to Zakynthos, providing frequent and flexible options for visitors. The ferry journey takes about an hour and provides a scenic introduction to the island's beauty.
Bus Services to and from Zakynthos
Zakynthos is well-connected to major Greek cities by an efficient bus service. There are daily buses from Zakynthos to Athens, with a travel time of approximately three hours. Additionally, there are daily buses from Zakynthos to Thessaloniki, which take around six hours. These bus services offer comfortable and cost-effective ways to travel to and from the island.
Highway Connections
For those traveling by car, the island is easily accessible via major highways. From Kyllini, the drive to Athens takes about three hours, while the journey to Patras is approximately one hour. These well-maintained highways ensure a smooth and enjoyable drive, making it convenient to reach the ferry terminal at Kyllini.
